Preparing for the exam

Now when you are sure about the work and have done your research completely, you must prepare for the exam.

  • Know the Pattern :- Write down the division of the question or different parts in it. Usually there are four sections which cover General awareness, Logical reasoning, Verbal reasoning and Quantitative aptitude.
  • Make a schedule :- Take a calendar and mark the days you have till the exam and mark the last two days before the exam with a different ink. This means that the last two days are dedicated for revision. Everyday, you should divide your time such that you cover topics from at least two to three sections.
  • Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude :- A bit of logical reasoning and Quantitative aptitude question are to be solved everyday. Find books that have question on this or print out sample question paper and solve it from them. If you are stuck up somewhere, you can always find the answer and how to do it on internet.
  • Verbal Ability :- To improve the verbal ability, read or watch something good in English. Avoid thrash reading and go for classics or take suggestion from the internet but again be careful about what you choose. When you do find the book or the visual, make sure that you focus on the reading. If you find new words in it, note it down and later look for its usage.
  • Verbal Ability and General Knowledge :- The best way to improve your verbal ability is by reading newspaper. Reading newspaper also improves your General knowledge. No matter how clichéd it might sound, it is the best way to kill two birds with one stone. Starting collecting the newspaper and write the important news in a copy. This way it will be easier to revise during the last days.
  • Repetitive revision :- The best way to remember things are by reading it, learning it and then taking a look at it the next day. Skip a day and revise it again. This way the things that you have to learn stay in your head for a long time. There are many techniques to learn, like Mnemonics and books that suggest learning techniques.
  • Final Revision :- During the last two days start revising the important topics first and then all the news that was written down earlier. Go through all the words that you learnt and the basic formulas in Maths section. Do not cramp more and more information on the last night till late as it only puts pressure on the brain. This is will render you tired and useless on the day of examination.

Managing the schedule

In the above section it is has been told how make a schedule. We will now talk about managing it.

  • Time and tide wait for none so there is no scope for lethargy and procrastination. If you are planning to include anyone of these in the schedule and then it’s assured that the whole schedule is going to fail.
  • There will be time when the studies will seem too boring and you want to give up. At times like that take a study break and go for walk. Remind yourself of the things that made you aspire for this in the first place. There is a little hard work to reach to higher places. Study breaks are essential in a schedule.
  • Studying is important but so is the world around. All work no play makes Jack a dull boy, so yes, go out and have fun once in a while. But do not forget to make up for it.
  • Take healthy food and avoid junk, caffeine, cigarettes, alcohol and other substances that you might thing will reduce your tension. Like it is commonly said, “Healthy mind in a Healthy Body” so take care of your body as well.

How to attempt an exam

Examination is the D-day for all the students who have been preparing so hard for this day.  Drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated. All the exam pressure and tension might kill your hunger but make sure you have a healthy homemade meal before leaving for the examination. There are few things that need to be kept in mind after reaching the centre and while writing the exam.

  • Do not look at others :- There are always students revising with fat books but is important that your confident does not shake because of it. Believe in yourself and you will give your best.
  • Last minute cramping of new information is not advisable :- Wake up early in the morning and do not start off with learning new things. Revise the formulas, exercise and relax. Also, do not go to the centre and start learning all the things that you see other learning. It will just stress you and hamper your normal thinking process.
  • During the exam just look at your own paper :- Do not get distracted while giving an examination. Most importantly beware of people who ask your help while writing the exam. As much as it is believed that helping is a noble thing to do but it is not while giving an exam. It is called cheating which can debar both of you from the exam.
  • Follow the rules of the examination religiously :- Turn your mobile phone off and put it in your bag or hand it over to the invigilator. Make sure you are well prepared with all the pens , pencil and other stationeries for the exam. Do not take the exam rules lightly because one wrong step and you will suffer the consequences.
