1) What does it cover?

Since AIPMT is a standard competitive exam, many state and government universities voluntarily participate in the examination process and accept its merit list to offer admissions in their respective colleges. This national level exam is conducted to provide admission into 130 government medical colleges and 30 dental colleges to fill up approximately 2200 MBBS seats and 300 BDS seats.

2) How is it conducted?

AIPMT is conducted in a single stage in offline mode. The exam is conducted in English as well as Hindi medium. The question paper consists of 180 questions with a total of 720 marks. Each correct question carries 4 marks while each incorrect question carries negative one (-1) mark. Exam duration is of 3 hours. Questions are asked from the following sections:

  1. Physics
  2. Chemistry
  3. Botany
  4. Zoology

Candidates willing to appear for AIPMT must have passed physics, chemistry, biology and English separately and have scored 50% marks in physics, chemistry and biology combined in their SSC exam conducted by CBSE or any other board recognized by the government.

3) What is the seat allotment?

The examination is conducted with the aim of standardizing and making medical education available to all regions of the country on an equitable basis. The merit list of AIPMT gets prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the exam. The seats are reserved for SC, ST, OBC and physically handicapped candidates in the following manner:

  1. 15% seats for SC candidates
  2. 7.5% seats for ST candidates
  3. 27% seats for NC – OBC candidates
  4. 3% seats for physically handicapped candidates
