Any business requires proper management due to which business administration degrees have become high in demand. However, admission to the ace institutes like IIMs and many others requires the candidates to appear for management entrance exams like CAT. In fact there are many other management entrance exams like MAT, XAT, ATMA etc. but CAT is by far the most reputable and a requisite for admission into the IIMs

What is CAT?

CAT or Common Admission Test is essentially a computer based selection exam conducted by the IIMs for their business management programs. More than 100 management institutes across the country require candidates to pass the CAT exam for admission to their management programs. These institutes include:

  • Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies
  • Institute of Management Technology
  • National Institute of Industrial Engineering
  • International Management Institute
  • Management Development Institute
  • SP Jain Institute of Management and Research
  • Faculty of Management Studies

The CAT exam is held every year by the IIMs in a rotational manner. The Exam dates are usually declared during the month of August each year.

Can I appear for CAT?

In order to appear for CAT you need to fulfill the following criteria:

You should have a bachelor Degree with minimum 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. ( 45% for candidates belonging to SC, ST, and Persons with disability or differently abled persons)

The degree should be awarded by a University recognized by the act of the central or state legislature in the country or any other institutes which have been established due to an act by the Parliament or even declared to be deemed as University under the section 3 of UGC act 1956, the candidate may also possess an equivalent qualification which is recognized by the ministry of HRD, Government of India.

The candidates who are appearing for the final year of a bachelor degree or equivalent along with those who have completed the requirements of the degree and are waiting for the results can also apply. On selection these candidates will get permission to join the program provisionally only if the certificate is submitted by June 30, 2017 from the principle or registrar of the college. This certificate should state that the candidate and completed all requirements for obtaining the bachelor degree or equivalent qualification. The eligibility may be verified by the IIMs at different stages of the selection process.

How do I register for CAT 2017?

The registration process for CAT 2016 will begin in the month of August 2016 through the online mode only on the official website of CAT. The candidate needs to visit the official page of CAT www,iimcat.ac. Once you have logged in you need to fill out the important details in the application form and choose 3 cities. You will be allotted any one of the centers that you have chosen after the last date of registration. The admit card is sent through the official website and you need to download it from there.
